The USA has many world class wine regions, with both east and west coast shining. Here are some of our favorites.
Finger Lakes, New York
Famous for its Riesling, the Finger Lakes region of New York is a delight to visit. The cool climate is ideal for Rieslings, but also Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Gewürztraminer. The 11 long lakes that gave the area its name provide many opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as hiking and watersports. Don’t miss the glass blowing studios in the area also.
Napa & Sonoma, California
Napa and Sonoma are two of the most well-known wine regions in the USA. These California strongholds can be visited alone or in one visit to the broader area.
Napa is home to over 400 wineries and is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Of particular interest are the high-quality and complex Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines – so if you are a fan of this style of wine, Napa is perfect for you.
Sonoma is a little further north, and has even more wineries than Napa. Known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel, wine tastings in Napa are multi-day affairs. We recommend hiring a guide and designated driver!
Walla Walla Valley, Washington
Walla Walla, in the Pacific Northwest, has warm sunny days and cool nights – perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Take a tour of the small and intimate tasting rooms dotted around Walla Walla, and discover the unique terroir and beautiful region.
Willamette Valley, Oregon
The Willamette Valley follows the river of the same name. Also in the Pacific Northwest, Willamette’s climate is cooler and suited to Pinot Noir, as well as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. Rolling hills and cute villages are plentiful and your wine tastings in the area are bound to be memorable.
Georgia Mountains
The wineries of the Georgia mountains are the wildcard in this list. The stunning mountain setting of these vineyards makes a wine-centric vacation in this area a must-try. Try the Cabernet Sauvignon from Wolf Mountain Vineyards in Dahlonega, or the Muscadine from Habersham Vineyards & Winery in Helen.
